FOR HIS BOOK:

HAND DRAWN JOKES FOR SMART, ATTRACTIVE PEOPLE

I know what it feels like to be rejected — by The New Yorker!

So you can imagine how much I enjoyed talking to Matthew Diffee — who has had so many of his cartoons published in the premier magazine for cartoonists.

Hundreds and hundreds of cartoons pour into The New Yorker. I know three of mine were among the bunch — but they never got anywhere. Well, thinking about it now — it was in the late 90’s. Perhaps they used my cartoons for Sammy Sosa’s ticket-tape parade.

But Matthew Diffee doesn’t have to worry — they publish his cartoons like stacks of pancakes that keep coming and coming. And they are right — because they are among my favorites.

Loyal readers to TNY usually check out the cartoons first — and we have our favorite.  Now Matthew Duffee has selected for this second edition 297 cartoons that will get you smiling — or thinking. And even some laugh out loud moments.

I love his A Day in the Brain of a Cartoonist. And his FAQs with famous cartoonists. By the way, they say there are fifty-odd cartoonists represented in thus book. What does that mean exactly? 51? 53? 57?  Or does it mean 50 ODD — REALLY ODD — cartoonists? Maybe I could do a cartoon about that…maybe I won’t get rejected….maybe my dream will come true and I — moi — will be published the the venerable and brilliant New Yorker magazine. (Cartoon editor, please note my compliments before your reject me….)

I love Matthew Diffee’s work — check his website where has a great trailer to describe his book of cartoons.
