Oui! Jamie Cat Callan is Magnifique!
Ah, tres bien! Jamie Cat Callan charms us with a book that takes you on a whirlwind trip to Paris and the French countryside. Is it a lost concept -- charm? Is anyone charming anymore? When I think of charm I think of Count Rostov in Amor Towles' book, A Gentleman in Moscow. How delightful it would be if more people were charming.
I enjoyed Jamie's book on so many levels. It was fun for me to be reminded of so many of the places that I visited in France -- back in the days when I lived in England and would 'pop' across the Channel every few weeks. I enjoyed all the behind-the-scene stories and references to the fashion world. The talk about food and flowers and fans is fascinating. It is one of those intimate books where you feel that you are just chatting with a good friend. Jamie hopes that we will all find joie de vie. This book certainly gave me lots of joy.
Her literary agent is the brilliant Irene Goodman (Irene Goodman Literary Agency), who was the very first guest on Joy on Paper.
Wouldn't the world would be so much nicer if people were more charming? Everyone needs the lessons in Parisian Charm School: French Secrets for Cultivating Love, Joy, and That Certain je ne sais quoi.
