Robert McCaw - Death of a Messenger

Death of a Messenger, the first in his series that includes two books in his Koa Kane Hawaiian Mystery Series: Fire and Vengeance and Off the Grid in McCaw’s

It is is a thrilling police procedural set on the Big Island of Hawaii. It starts when someone found a body at the army’s training area bearing all the marks of ancient ritual. Hilo Chief Detective Koa Kane investigates the grisliest case in his long career.

All I know about Hawaii comes from what I have read in Robert McCaw's books. He seamlessly weaves in the history and folklore of the island to create a story that is both fascinating and -- once it gets moving -- is faced paced. I like how he uses the Hawaiian language.
