Listen to PatZi's Interview

Award winning photographer David Liittschwager has an amazing eye for details…and an uncanny ability to capture breathtaking photographs of some of the tiniest creatures in the ocean.

Gorgeous. Stunning. Engrossing. These are not the words we would usually associate with Octopus – Seahorse – Jellyfish. But after you read this book, you will never look at them in quite the same way. Using all his years of experience David Liitschwager has captured  their ethereal beauty. The techniques that he has developed include using condenser lenses that allow light to be focused the the campera lens — it works to create incredible contrast that reveals the intricate nature of these mostly tiny delicate creatures.

Each photo explores animals that don’t get enough coverage. Accompanying the amazing photographs are essays by three award-winning experts:

Olivia Judson writes about the octopus.

Jennifer Holland writes about seahorses.

Elizabeth Kolbert, the author of The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, writes about jellyfish.

With over 200 photographs, you will find yourself returning to this book many times to gaze into the eyes of an octopus, marvel at a male seahorse giving birth, and admire the comb jellyfish that looks as if it is wired with LEDs.

Special thanks to National Geographic for this book that will help people to realize the importance of these amazing animals — and the need for all of support the efforts being made to protect our oceans. .
