From the time he was a child Bob Young loved airplanes. Growing up in Long Island he saw lots of airplanes. Years later when he was a successful lawyer he purchased a Grumman two-seater: Two Niner Lima.

In those days he was living what he calls La Dolce Vitaa beautiful life. But things changed. Following a family financial crisis, he lost his comfortable lifestyle. Instead of giving up, he decided to fly across the country by himself to find himself. He had 40 years of flying experience, but it was still a brave decision for a 71-year old. Heck, it would be a brave decision for anyone.

Taking off from Santa Monica he headed to Connecticut in Two Niner Lima following the southern route.  Along the way he stopped to visit old friends and make new friends. He learned about what he was capable of doing. He learned about the the goodness of people and about this beautiful country where anything is possible. On his way home he took took the northern route where he hit some bad weather–the Mother of all Thunderstorms.

Captain Bob puts the reader in the left seat—making readers feel what it is like to fly a small aircraft. His passion for flying and his fine writing makes for a very enjoyable read.

Vagabond Pilot: A Voyage of Discovery and Renewal is a book for everyone. It encourages readers to reach for the stars and realize that at the end of the day it is how you handle difficult situations that makes the difference between success and failure.

Vagabond Pilot is a great gift for anyone you know who is struggling with financial or personal loss.  Captain Bob’s message is that self-pity isn’t productive, that people need to face their fears and rise to the challenge to make a better life for themselves.

If I can fly this two-seater across America...I can do anything.
