Jeddah Bride by Patricia Bonis

Few memoirs are as compelling as Jeddah Bride–the true story of an American girl who marries into a wealthy Saudi family. It is a cautionary tale that reads like thriller.

I enjoyed talking to Patricia Filos about the story of finding love, discovering betrayal, and then facing the tragedy of having her two children snatched away from her. In this memoir captures all the happiness and tragedy of her life as the wife of a man who swept her off her feet and then turned out to be a different man.

With hints of her Long Island accent, I was enthralled as she talked about the challenges that she had to overcome in the search for her children. For fourteen years she never gave up hope that one day they would be reunited.

The quality of her writing is on such a high level that I found myself hoping that she will one day write a novel. The introduction, written by her daughter, sets the tone for this book. Perhaps together they can turn their writing talents into a novel. Patricia Filos has had enough of true life excitement.

I always love a memoir where you come away knowing not only more about the creator, but about the world in which they lived. Patricia Bonis traveled to seven countries in her search for her children. At times the story flashes to the humor of an Italian-American girl who got carried away on what she thought was a magic carpet, and at other times her longing for her children will bring tears to your eyes. She is a remarkable writer and a very strong woman. Her courage is inspiring.
