Guiding Emily by Barbara Hinske

September is Guide Dog Month, so It was a JOY to talk to Barbara Hinske, the author off GUIDING EMILY, the story of a young woman, Emily Main, who goes blind and her beloved guide dog, Garth. Barbara has been a favorite guest on Joy on Paper—and my listeners are thrilled that her book, GUIDING EMILY, has become a Hallmark Movie. It was released on September 8th to great acclaim.

Of course, I wasn’t surprised . The first time I read the book, I saw it as a movie in my head. So did Rita Moreau, Joy on Paper’s Special Correspondent. We both fell in love with Garth–Emily’s guide dog.

In this fun interview, Barbara gives us the inside scoop about filming on location in Canada and about the great cast, including Sarah Drew as Emily, Antonio Cupo, and Eric McCormack at the voice of Garth.

Barbara is such a fine writer. Her bestselling Rosemont series has been a favorite of mystery writers for years. One of her novellas, THE CRHISTMAS CLUB is also a Hallmark Movie

You will love this interview. Barbara  explains how a tour of the Foundation for Blind Children inspired her to write a book that would help people understand what it means to be blind and also the great work of guide dogs. Barbara donates half of the proceeds from the book to the Foundation. She is truly an amazing and generous woman.

Visit Barbara’s website to find out more about her books There are four books in her Guiding Emily series.

Please help us turn Guiding Emily into a television series on the Hallmark Channel. It’s an inspiring story and one that audiences will love.
