Follow-up interview with Jim about Justice at Trial
I enjoyed talking to James J. Brosnahan so much that I just had to have him back on Joy on Paper to talk more about his great book, Justice at Trial: Courtroom Battles and Ground Breaking Trials.
I wish everyone would read this book. It is written to highlight some of his most famous cases–all of which are relevant in today’s world.
Jim writes in a style that is most appealing–short stories about individual cases told with deep insights into the law. Sometimes funny, always intriguing, the cases he presents are like reading mini-novels.
If you love mysteries, you will love this book. If you are interested in human nature, you will love this book. And at the same time you will have a brilliant overview of those cases that have made an impact on our society.
It is also a very touching story about his early life, his determination to overcome obstacles, and a love story when he writes about his wife, who is a judge.
From July 20, 2023 interview:
This is one of the best and most exciting memoirs I have ever read. James Brosnahan has turned 19 of his most famous and groundbreaking courtroom battles into a thrilling suspense. Spanning over fifty years, his cases are like a history lesson. It’s breathtaking to discover how many of them have been at the forefront of legal decisions. He is truly a Lion of the Courtroom.
I think of him as a cross between Perry Mason, Clarence Darrow, and Sherlock Holmes. He writes with flare and humor as he catches the reader up in his pursuit of justice. His loves for the law. His joy in mentoring young lawyers. And his passion for life.
James Brosnahan is a remarkable man. He will soon return to Joy on Paper because I just loved talking to him!
If you like mysteries, you will love Justice at Trial: Courtroom Battles and Groundbreaking Cases.
Follow a trial lawyer’s career through the demanding, often controversial, and suspenseful world of jury trials, tension-filled appeals and the different worlds of courtrooms, jail cells, corporate boardrooms, and law firms. Each of the cases in the nineteen chapters were selected from a total of his 150 jury trials to reflect issues of current importance, including refugees on the Mexican border, gargantuan gender battles inside one of the largest corporations in the world, sexual taboos on national television, accusations of terrorism, government agents who cheat, innocent prisoners in our jails, the constitutional right to speak and print the truth, bringing law to a war zone, poverty and murder on Native American Reservations, current problems of hunger in America, and more.
