Stories set in Hollywood are among my favorites, so I really enjoyed Ann Garvin’s There’s No Coming Back from This.
Life in Hollywood is just so different from any other place in the world. There is a sense of excitement. We’ve lived so much of our life in the films we have watched, that there is a sense that we know the place. The studios. The lights, camera, action. The idea that the show must go on. It’s all there.
When Poppy Lively discovers her accountant absconded with her money, she heads to Hollywood. A big mid-life course change for this midwestern single mom , I couldn’t help but hope that Poppy will find whatever it is she is searching for—success, happiness, a new beginning. That she finds herself in the wardrobe department is a big plus. It’s one of the most exciting jobs in the business. It’s hectic. And it’s a joy to know the costumes you pull together for a film will be seen by millions. It was my favorite place to hang out in when I was in Hollywood
There’s No Coming Back from This is a fun read. You will keep turning the pages to see how Poppy handles her new life. Who she will meet. After all, Hollywood is a city of dreams. I like Poppy and I love Ann Garvin’s writing.
