I love books set in New York City. Especially historical one. So I really enjoyed reading Anika Savoy’s THE GHOST IN HER. Set in 1888 it follows the life of a beautiful Irish immigrant, Maggie O’Connor, who has psychic abilities–or does she?

In Book #1 of The Ungilded series, Anika weaves a complex story that features the less famous people of the times. It is not the Gilded Age millionaires and society people, but the immigrants who created the New York City that we all know so well. More Bowery sweatshops than Wall Street tycoons. She creates an atmospheric world of Old New York, which I really enjoyed. A gifted writer who knows how to paint a picture, Anika has created two character, Maggie, and her love interest, Gershom, who will give her many more stories to tell. (I particularly like Gershom.) It is always fun to be at start of a new series and I think that Anika will find many more interesting stories to tell about New York City. Bravo, Anika! You have the start of what I predict will be a long running series.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Seeing ghosts is literally in her blood.

Life is hard enough without having to deal with ghosts following you around every day. Maggie O’Connor wishes that she did not have psychic gifts but coming from a long line of Irish female seers, she never had a choice.

Psychic gifts does not necessarily make a woman crazy. If only the local judge agreed. When Maggie ends up at the New York City Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell’s Island, she must find a way to escape and return to Gershom’s loving arms….
